MY ROLE
Research
UX & UI Design
Wireframing
User Testing
The idea came to me when I was volunteering with an NGO ‘Learning Ladder’ in Delhi, India. There I noticed the need to develop a platform that provides an integrated solution for the overall development of children with disabilities, who have a lot of potentials if they are provided with the right resources and training.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Our working parents of ADHD children struggle to find Schools, jobs specific for their children because of a lack of resources available. Our solution should deliver a quick & easy way for them to procure resources( Education, Consultation & Jobs) and make a better judgment.
RESEARCH
BACKGROUND RESEARCH- ADHD in India
As per the recent statistics posted by the Government of India,
persons are ‘disabled’ out of 1.21 billion population

26.8
million
69%
of the disabled population belongs to Rural India

31%
of the disabled population belongs to Urban India
According to these statistics, the most common disability amongst children was found to be Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder(ADHD).

ADHD occurs mostly in childhood. Typically, the symptoms appear anywhere between 3-6 years.

ADHD was more prevalent in males than in females. According to a case study conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health, India it was found that M:F ratio was 3:1. A majority of the children belonged to the middle and lower socio-economic classes and were first-born children.

There are 3 types of ADHD
Interactive only
Hyperactive/Impulsive
Combined
Research Goal-
-
How to connect resources to the people with ADHD
-
What are the pain points for parents of ADHD children in terms of their education and counseling
-
Is there a need for a quiz about having ADHD
-
Designing for disability
-
Design activities for children to control their attention span
USERS & AUDIENCE
I conducted 4 user interviews with parents and special educators.
The user interviews allowed for direct insight from users that actively engage with the community, via physical events, enabling me to understand their needs and frustrations.
Parents Persona

"It's hard to find an integrated environment for my child, where he can study/play with other children. "

"Its difficult for my child to sit in a place more than 10 mins, runs or climbs too where it's not appropriate. avoids the task which requires mental pressure."

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
Based on the Indian market research, I identified a few indirect competitors. So, I studied the US market to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the platforms available.

DESIGN
BRANDING

Initially, the logo for the website was a simple typographic logo with the clear letter A showing the light coming from it but after qualitative research and feedback, the logo was ruled out as it seemed misleading for ADHD children as it was not justifying the qualities of ADHD.
So, to make the design more appropriate for ADHD children I used the concept of the puzzle pieces/blocks to showcase the disturbances that occur in their minds.

DESIGNING FOR ADHD
Calm environment with soothing colors, free of decorations
and distractions

According to various organizations and norms, it was found that the awareness color for ADHD is ORANGE and BLUE is used for Mental Health.
Use of flat illustrations to direct them towards the main content.
Distinguish important information by putting it in bold or color.
Use large print and clear font.

Using highlight in the navigation bar to know the destination
Use of different colors matching the theme to distinguish information
SOLUTION
1. Interactivity element
My aim was to make this website as interactive as possible to grab the attention of people with disabilities and also it helps them filter down the information according to an area of preference. This also helps in reducing manually typing a particular location but that option is still available

2. 360-degree virtual tour of schools
360-Degree virtual tour of schools, where parents can virtually take a tour of the school just by dragging around the screen. It also provides information about particular facilities provided by schools for ADHD children. It helps parents make a decision about their children's development.
3. Voice user Interaction
To make it engaging for children I have used Illustrations and also used voice interface so that children feel connected to the game on the website. The voice is of a kid is inbuilt in the Adobe XD
4. Games to stimulate the focusing power for children
The website also includes games for children based on learning and fun activities to avoid distractions and retain concentration
